If you haven’t heard, the new Cartoon Network Hotel is open! And since it’s located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, which isn’t too far from NYC, my friend and I decided to take our kids for a fun weekend! But, when we got there … let’s just say, things weren’t what I was expecting! So here’s our full review of the Cartoon Network Hotel!
But first … before I give y’all the deets, just know that, Riah and her friend had a TON of fun at the hotel. And I’m honestly looking forward to going back because our first visit, was just that, a first visit.
We also visited months ago (Oct 2020 to be exact), so I’m expecting things to be a whole lot better now.
And yes, I already emailed our concerns to the hotel. I just can’t write about how much fun the kids had without noting the concerns we had as parents.
With that said …
Here’s our full review of the Cartoon Network Hotel
The Cartoon Network Hotel has a few different themed rooms, but we stayed in the Powerpuff Girls room.
I mean … of course we did. Even though there are a bunch of different themed hotel rooms the girls were super excited for the Powerpuff Girls room. Now, reservations did say that they can’t guarantee that you get the room that you want, but they do try their best. Thankfully we got the room we wanted!
Here’s a quick tour of our Powerpuff Girls room at the Cartoon Network Hotel.
The room was a bit smaller than I thought it would be.
The room decor is super cute though, and we loved the walls! I kid you not all I wanted to do was grab a crayon and start coloring! But don’t do that!
However, with 2 adults, and 2 kids, the room felt a bit small. Especially since we had bags, and there weren’t any closets! But for a weekend, it wasn’t that bad.
We also had a few room issues.
Not only was there food still left in our fridge. Which makes me wonder who cleaned the room, and how good it was cleaned to begin with if food was left behind. But there was also a stain on one of the curtains!
Then our bathroom toilet flooded, and I was told by the front desk that because of covid they couldn’t do anything about it, because they couldn’t send someone into our room! Again, we only stayed there for one weekend, so I tried not to make a big fuss about it. Especially since the kids were having a great time.
But that ish really pissed me off! Had the kids needed to USE the bathroom in the middle of the night, we would have had bigger problems.
Oh and beware … the bathroom is cute, but the tub is super slippery.
On top of the issues we were already having, I took a shower, slipped and hurt my damn toe!
I’ll save you the horror and keep my bloody toe photo to myself. But you can imagine how much more upset that made me!
I’m also always careful in tubs, but whew! I was just grateful none of the kids slipped.
So … the next time we go back, you can bet we’re getting a suite!
Call us bougie, but we’re used to a certain kind of travel experience, and we go all out when we’re … going out. So sadly, our first stay at the Cartoon Network Hotel, was definitely not what I expected.
But I’m hoping it was just a one time issue, and that when we do go back, it’ll be a whole lot better. If so, I’ll post another review of our experience and let you know.
But AS I said, the kids had fun because there was a bunch of things for them to do.
Especially things they don’t normally get to do, like play backyard games?
They’re city kids! There’s no space around here for this stuff, so they took advantage of everything they could.
We played outside games, which for us, were literally right outside of our room, and participated in an outdoor scavenger hunt! Which was super easy, and the kids got a goodie bag whether they found all the items or not.
Here’s the list of activities they had available when we were there.
We skipped on painting pumpkins and decorating treat bags, but we did grab a ton of coloring sheets from the toon room to use in our room.
A few amenities were closed while we were at the hotel though.
Like the outdoor movie “theater”, which we were really looking forward to doing! And the splash pad, and outdoor pool were also closed as well. Which I get because it was a bit too cold for those.
So we’ve all agreed that we’ll visit again when it’s Summer so we can experience those as well.
However, we did get to go to the indoor pool.
Which was fun, and they have a jacuzzi that’s adult only I believe?
I will say though, for covid, it did feel like there were a lot of people in the pool at once. And the kids were all over.
So we worried a bit, but tried to let the kids have fun. We never got covid, so we were totally fine. Just noting because some of us worry more than others.
Oh and I can’t forget about the Ben 10 Omnicade, the VR games and Powerpuff station!
The arcade was super small, so don’t worry about staying there forever! The kids played a few games, and then they were ready to go. We adults played a few games as well so they both got to take a few prizes back to the room.
But once they were done with the arcade, they were off to play the VR games. And THAT’S where they had the most fun. There are two VR games, which they both got to play, and even though they were new to VR, they had a blast.
I had fun just screaming at them trying to help guide them. But of course they didn’t care if they won or not, they were just happy to be playing.
Oh and we did have to pay extra to play the VR games. I think it was like $5 a game? I’m not even sure at the moment, but it was worth it. The kids loved it.
After VR games, we all got to create our own virtual Powerpuff Girl, which I think turned out super cute!
Now, let’s talk about the food, since there’s really not much on the site about that.
Sadly, this review probably won’t be much help either, since we only ate breakfast at the Cartoon Network Hotel.
But it WAS good though!
Riah had the Bacon Pancakes, and I had the Banana Joe Bread.
Yup, we loved them so much that we ate the same thing both mornings.
And her friend had the Cartoon Cake breakfast, which was just a single pancake with themed sprinkles.
FYI – they’re the decorative hard sprinkles, so make sure your baby wipes them off before digging in!
Here’s the full Cartoon Network Hotel breakfast menu and pricing for when we were there.
However … allergy alert!
The banana bread that I ate had nuts in it! And the menu didn’t mention a damn thing about nuts. Normally I don’t like my banana bread with walnuts, but I definitely enjoyed it. Yet … I couldn’t help but wonder, if I had been allergic, would I have died? No one told me there was nuts in it, and it wasn’t noted on the menu.
Hopefully this was fixed since we’ve last visited. But if it hasn’t, now you know.
The Cartoon Kitchen Breakfast was really good too though.
My friend decided to try something different the day we were scheduled to check out of the hotel, and we were all curious too … so we nibbled on it. Just a tad. And Riah totally loved it! So she said she’s getting this next time.
Which I don’t blame her, because it was good, and that girl loves her some eggs.
Before we left, we visited the Bearista Cafe!
Even though we didn’t have time for a sit down breakfast at the Bearista Cafe, I couldn’t leave without grabbing some We Bear Bare macaroons! And then we saw there were frappes that the kids could drink because they didn’t have caffeine and we knew we had to try them!
You’ll see photos of both at the end of this post. However, the macaroons were just okay. They’re cute for the gram, but not the best I’ve ever had.
Overall the Cartoon Network Hotel was great, for the kids! But would we bother going back?
Definitely. It was a nice little road trip for us, and I loved the location and getting out of the city for a bit.
However, I’m really hoping they’ve got their sh*t together now!
The hotel felt more like an expensive motel with all the issues we had. So I’m hoping we’ll be able to really enjoy our next visit. Without all the issues!
But since the kids had so much fun, I’d be willing to go back for another weekend.
Here’s a few more photos from our trip.
Thanks for reading!
