Last week, during our Mid-Winter break, Riah and I got to screen Warner Bro’s new Tom and Jerry movie! It was hilarious! But as always you know I’ve gotta give you all the details before you sit down to watch this with your fam! So, here’s my Tom and Jerry movie review below!

Here’s Everything Parents Need To Know About The Tom And Jerry Movie

This Parent Review is also for Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, Godparents, siblings, and anyone else that may be looking to watch the Tom And Jerry movie with kids.

What is the Tom And Jerry movie about?

Riah and I have seen a few different Tom and Jerry movies before, including this one recently, but the new Tom and Jerry movie directed by Tim Story, is a hybrid between live action and animation, that takes place in a New York City hotel. When the hotel finds out they have a mouse, they’re convinced that the solution to their problem is a cat, as to not scare off the guests.

Well, in true Tom and Jerry fashion, one thing leads to another, and the biggest wedding in town gets caught in the crossfire! It’s hilarious!

If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, check it out here: Tom And Jerry Movie Trailer

Is this movie kid-friendly?

Most definitely!

If you’re familiar with Tom and Jerry you’re already accustomed to their tricks, and battles, and even though this is a modern take on the classic, it’s still super kid friendly!

Is this movie best for younger kids? Older kids?

ALL of em! Including the big BIG kids aka adults!

Are there any inappropriate scenes or components for kids? (ex: language, songs, etc.)

There’s an adult joke that goes over kids heads, but still unnecessary for a kids movie, since I’m sure older kids may get it. But that’s about it.

Are there any positive messages in this movie?

So there’s a lovely “twist” at the end about how Kayla wanted a job because everyone her age is doing so well and she felt like she needed to prove herself, and I thought it was such a great way to remind not just kids, but also parents, that you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing! I mean, she went through “great lengths” to get the job, and in the real world that wouldn’t fly!

So teaching kids now not to crumble under peer pressure, and not to compare themselves to others is great!

How scary is the Tom And Jerry movie?

Not scary at all.

Is there a ton of violence in this movie?

Nope, just typical Tom and Jerry shenanigans!

Was it worth the price for our family?

Ummm … so this is coming out simultaneously on HBO Max when it drops in theaters, and if you’re okay with going to the movies it is DEFINITELY worth paying for! I honestly wish Riah and I had watched this in theaters.

But of course, it’s different for each family, so keep your family in mind when reading my thoughts. YOU know your family best. So if your family would totally enjoy Tom And Jerry, it may totally be worth it. If you’re unsure, you can still watch it on HBO Max for free, with your subscription.

Will parents actually enjoy this movie?

Heck yeah! Especially if you’re a millennial or you grew up watching Tom and Jerry!

Are there any catchy songs kids may remember or get stuck in your head?

Nothing for kids to remember afterwards, since there’s no original music, but I do have to say the soundtrack for this movie was amazing! The movie has the same fun-loving vibe as the trailer did!

Do you need to stay for the end credits?

Yup. There’s a tiny bit at the end.

Anything else worth mentioning?

Well, of course, there is! Lol

If you’ve read my movie reviews on Popcorn and Tequila (my movies + tv shows blog for adults) then you know I ALWAYS have a ton to say. Lol

So here are some other things worth mentioning …

  • There are singing pigeons!

  • The title sequence is great.

  • All the animals are animated. (All the people are live action.)

  • I love when the animals refer to animal control as 5.0! It’s hilarious.

  • Ken Jeong is the chef. So yes, be prepared to laugh!

  • There’s always a love interest in kid shows huh? Although their bond over sneakers is mad cute and mad New York! (And so is this sentence huh?)

  • The cat scene where it tries to catch the mouse viciously is so good! The music drives the emotions and it’s so intense for a kids movie! But I loved it.

And that’s it!

I hope this movie review helps you make a decision on whether or not the Tom And Jerry movie is right for you and your family.

Movies are supposed to be a fun activity for parents and kids to enjoy together, but there’s nothing worse than paying for a movie that your kid HATES. So I really do hope this helped!

If it did, please let me know in the comments.

Are you excited to watch Tom and Jerry??
